National Assembly Advocates Review Of Environmental Laws



National Assembly Mourns Flood Victims
The National Assembly is advocating a complete overhaul of environmental laws, with strict implementation in the states to ensure greater development across the country.


According to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, the House is aware of the grave threats poses by various environmental pollution.
“Leadership of the National Assembly is conscious of the grave threat poses by such issues as global warming, climate change, drought, desertification, oil spillage and general environmental pollution,” he said.
Dogara, who said this while addressing environmental stakeholders as well as diplomatic corps at a National Summit on environment in Abuja said it is imperative to put environmental law in place
“We should, therefore, design new rules to help Nigeria transition to a great economy. Therefore, it is very important to review extent legislatures to meet up with the emerging environmental trends.”
He also said the National Assembly will take bolder steps towards alleviating the hardship faced by rural communities.
